In 1992, the Olympics came to Barcelona. At
the top of Montjuïc (with a magnificent view overlooking the
city) a stadium originally constructed for the 1929 World Fair
was restored to seat 55,000 spectators - the Estadi Olímpic. Other
facilities for the Olympics were constructed next door - the Anella
Olímpic (Olympic Ring).
You can take the metro part-way and then get a funicular railway
to take you up the steep hill. In the blazing mid-afternoon
heat, that would have been the sensible thing to do - so instead
we walked all the way from the harbour and then climbed up the
hill.
