June and it's nearly my birthday.  So a trip to Newcastle is called for - what better place to spend your birthday than in one of the top party cities in the world... the Toon!

Staying in Ashington (just north of Newcastle) which is home to the world-famous Bubbles bar, a statue of Wor Jackie (legendary Toon footballer) and Lee.

In Newcastle itself, by the banks of the Tyne a lot of redevlopment is taking place. Narrowly missing out on the European Capital of Culture award, it hasn't put them off - going ahead with the Baltic Arts Centre (a conversion of an old flour mill) and the Sage Gateshead (a new world-class concert-hall, sponsored by my former employer)
